PAIR ZINC ANODE ROUND FLANGE

The pair of round-flange zinc anodes, bolted onto rudders or outdrive legs: it protects the metal parts submerged near the fixing point from galvanic corrosion.

Sacrificial anodes wear away in place of the metal parts they protect from galvanic corrosion: they must be checked and replaced once wear exceeds 60%, since beyond that point they no longer provide effective protection. Zinc or aluminium is used in seawater (aluminium, for equal protection, weighs a third less, has a higher electronegative potential and is less polluting, making it especially suited to aluminium hulls); magnesium is preferred for freshwater-only use.
